Midsummer festival playlist
Midsummer is here again. Maybe the second important celebration in the
Scandinavian culture. Here, I want to introduce few scandinavian songs.
ABBA / A-Teens: Does "Mamma Mia!" movie or musical ring a bell? Well this world
famous entertainment show is based on the songs of ABBA. The band won
Eurovision song contest in 1974 and after that their success rose like a
rocket. After the original band broke up, music industry introduced a
derivated band: ABBA teens, later A-teens. A-teens songs were same as
original band but more updated.
Ylves: Norwegian comedy duo Ylves made a song, which was suppose to be a
commercial for their talk show. However, the song went viral and ended
up to be one of the most trending video in Youtube.
Avicii: Tim Bergling, maybe one of the most famous DJ in Scandinavia. He
used EDM to fuse, such as country and soul, to create fresh and new
songs. This inspired many other DJs around the world.
Jenni Vartiainen: Singer rose famous for the first time after winning Popstars song contest in Finland. Missä muruseni on (Where My Sweetheart
Is) remained on the top of the chart many weeks. Translation for the
lyrics here.
Irina: This finnish pop & finnish rock singer is rocking in this
Pokka (Guts)-song. She is in the top 30 of the best selling female
artist. Translation for the lyrics is here.
PMMP: Summer won’t be summer without this summer hit Rusketusraidat (Tan lines) -song. Translation for this lyrics here.
